Procedure of Joining SSB

Introduction: SSB (Service Selection Board) is an organization which is set up by Ministry of  Defence, India. SSB is the body that schedule, organize and conduct the Interview of candidates who applying for Indian Military Forces. The board evaluates the suitability of the candidate for becoming an officer using a standardized protocol of evaluation system which constitutes of personality, intelligence tests and interviews. The tests are of both types i.e. written and practical task based.

Process of SSB Interview: SSB Interview is a five days process with include two stages of testing. Only when a candidate clears Stage I Testing goes for Stage II Testing.
Stage I: The stage consists of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception and Description Test (PP & DT). Stage 1 is a screening test. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of combined performance in OIR Test and PP & DT.
Stage II: This stage is conducted for four (4) days. Stage II consists of Psychology Tests, Group Testing Officer Tasks (GTO Tasks), Interview & Conference.

Day1: Screening Test (Stage I)
·         Verbal and Non-Verbal Test
·         Picture Perception and Discussion Test

Day2: Psychology Test(Stage II)-The Psychological Testing is a priceless tool designed for the observation of human beings responding to a variety of controlled conditions, conditions which resemble as nearly as possible those of everyday life, and of course, some unusual conditions. It helps ¡n recording various emotional and behavioral reactions, what previous experiences determined them, to what degree and what manner.

 

Days 3 & 4: Group Test by GTO (Group Testing Officer) (Stage II)- On the third and fourth days, there are tasks including group discussion; group (military) planning exercises; progressive group tasks; small (half) group tasks; individual tasks (obstacles); group obstacle or "snake race"; command tasks; and a final group task.

 

Days 2, 3 & 4:  Interview by IO (Interviewing Officer) (Stage II)-On day 2, 3 or 4 along with GTO, individual candidate interview. The interview is conducted by the interviewing officer. It is based on the personal information questionnaires filled by the candidates on day 1 and other general knowledge.

 

Day 5: Final Assessment and Results (Conference) (Stage II)- On day five, All the officers in Proper Uniform to attend the conference each candidate has a conversation with a panel of assessors. The assessors look for confidence and expression when speaking; a positive attitude in adversity and in life; and honesty. Following this, the final results are announced. Successful candidates remain for an intensive medical examination taking three to five days at a military hospital.

·         Some things you should have detailed knowledge about- India, Indian Politics, History of India, India and its current affairs, Armed Forces in India etc.

·         Know your native state/town better.
